Clinically, La Stone Therapy is the application of thermal therapy, using deep penetrating heated stones and alternating with extremely cold stones. This type of massage goes beyond the physical experience of a typical massage and enters deeper dimensions of relaxation, health and well being.
Thermotherapy is the application of either hot or cold to the body for the purpose of changing the physiological responses that are going on in the body to promote healing.
Application of either hot or cold stones produce a series of internal responses. A prolonged application of hot stones to an area acts as a derivative. This decreases blood and lymph from an area by increasing blood and lymph to another area. The opposite will occur with short application of cold stones having the result of retrostasis, the pushing of blood and lymph.
A prolonged application of hot stones followed by a brief application of cold stones causes dilation and constriction of blood vessels and increases white blood cells to a given area. Using both temperatures will bring down inflammation and stop congestion.
